Hollywood Dolls: Jimmy Stewart as George Bailey

Slightly creepy-eyed doll of Jimmy Stewart from IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. Complete with basket of money, and...suitcase?? I don't recall a suitcase in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE. Was he packed-up to commit suicide?

"Yes, I think I'll take my best jacket, in cases I go to Heaven. My swim trunks, in case I go to Hell..."

You know...for all those lakes they've got there. ;)

Doll in my Collection -- December 2008 or January 2009. Photographs from same time, as was original draft.

Text written this morning, while possibly running a fever...

Can't think straight.

For all I know, this could be written in Greek.

The suitcase was important to George Bailey as it represented his dreams of travel. The first time we see him in the movie he is in the store wanting to buy a suitcase. "A big one!" he says just before the frame freezes.

The doll is a fail as a representation of Stewart, I`m afraid. Had I seen it not knowing what it was I would never have known who it was supposed to be.

Take care of yourself, Ginger. You`re not typing in Greek just yet, but you should rest.

As M.D. Jackson points out, there is the suitcase in IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE, that George is given when he's planning a trip to South America. Apparently the pot of money refers to the collection made at the end by all his friends, but that's a weird touch.

It's really a creepy doll, especially that grin. Looks like George may have been sniffing some of that angel dust brought down by Clarence.

haha yeah he def has creepy eyes! i love that tie tho!

on a totally diff note, whenever i see Henry Travers in another film i HAVE to say (in my best Jimmy Stewart voice) "Why...why its CLARENCE!"

awwww i hope you're wrong about the fever coming on, but regardless please stay warm and get some rest.

Believe it or not, I have this very George Bailey figure -- a gift from long time pals/readers/bloggers, Mister Muleboy and Bellotoot.

M.D. Jackson: Oh yeah...I remember now. This is what I get for not watching it this Christmas...In fact, I don't think I watched IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE all year. I used to always watch Christmas Eve and once in July.

Yeah, it's not the best likeness of Stewart. His body is especially funny. Like a buffed-up action figure! Not the tall lanky Stewart we all know and love.

As for me typing in Greek: I tell you, I had the worst headache...was sure I was coming down with something! The Kid was complaining of a sore throat, too, before bedtime, so I figured we must both be getting sick.

Anyway, I think it's just a lack of heat and humidity...

Grand Old Movies: Hi!

So the suitcase represents his dreams, huh? Packing a suitcase in hopes of something, but never getting to unpack it...

I really need to re-watch it. I tried to, this past Christmas Eve, but was busy wrapping presents and missed the first part of it. Then when I finally turned it on, it was the part where George Bailey is yelling at his kids. My daughter got scared.

As for George sniffing Clarence's Angel Dust: Ha! What a line. :)

...

Artman: Yep. And the tie broke when I tried to steal it for Ken.

Ha! I can totally hear Jimmy Stewart saying that! I always think it when I watch BALL OF FIRE.

No fever. Was freezing in this house so I bundled up and went to sleep. When I woke up, the house was even colder, but I was overheated! Strange combination I guess...just made me feel awful.

Have gotten some rest, Doctor. Slept that night. Woke up...wrote; took care of kid; took nap...did real life stuff. Cooked supper. Watched Marx Bros. Bathed kid and put her to bed. Bathed me and put me to bed. Wrote six pages of notes for Vaudeville story. Slept several hours. Now I'm here, feeling a bit better, fixing to write.

Now YOU stay warm, too, Mr. Snowbound. Double up on those black socks. ;)

...

Mythical Monkey: I DO believe it! ;)

Do you make him run around your office screaming, "Merry Christmas?"

I like to stand him next to my 18" Ginger Rogers doll and let him dream...

That doll looks more like a crazed Fred Astaire.

Artman: Yes. Yes, I will.

...

KC: Ha. I can see that, too. :)

Yeah, he's a funny little thing! :)

And there's actually another Jimmy Stewart doll; a much bigger, more realistic type doll. This one is pretty much a Jimmy Stewart action figure. ;)
