Fun with Keywords! (vol. 5) August was a lifetime ago...

Well, six months, anyway.

With the good intentions of writing a 'Fun with Keywords' piece, during the late summer of last year, I saved some of my 'then' keywords, thanks to statcounter, and all the wacky ways, via search results, people found my blog.

So not all of this is real relevant at the time.

If you want to see a real relevant, maybe Chico will take you to the zoo.

"Older Gene Tierney"

Older than what? -- Older than dirt??

-- That's not a nice thing to say!

I'm guessing 'Older', as in her later years??

Well, I'll give you a basic overview...

Tierney was born in 1920. She made her film debut in THE RETURN OF FRANK JAMES (1940), at the age of nineteen. Five years later, she was Oscar nominated, best actress, for LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN (1945). After working with Humphrey Bogart, in THE LEFT HAND OF GOD (1955), Tierney took a break from Hollywood. She was going crazy. In the early 1960s, She returned to film, for three more movies, ending with 1964's THE PLEASURE SEEKERS. She later made a TV movie, DAUGHTER OF THE MIND, with CLOSE TO MY HEART co-star, Ray Milland. Once retired from Hollywood, Tierney enjoyed a happy marriage (her second), lived in Texas, and felt much better mentally. She also authored an autobiography, Self-Portrait. Tierney died in 1991, at the age of seventy.

I do recommend her autobiography, if you can find a copy.

As for her film-work: Tierney's best movie is LAURA.

As for her best performance, don't trust the Oscars; skip LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN, and go straight to THE GHOST AND MRS. MUIR.

And if you don't want to go there, go to the zoo with Chico.

I'm sick and tired of carrying the nuts.

"Sleep in New York Cheap"

Is it?

I've never slept there...

"Movies with Gene Tierney and Dana Andrews"

TOBACCO ROAD (1941)
BELLE STARR (1941)
LAURA (1944)
THE IRON CURTAIN (1948)
WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS (1950)

And if I had it my way, they also would have co-starred in LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN, with Andrews replacing Cornel Wilde. And in WHIRLPOOL (1949), with Andrews, instead of Richard Conte, bow-tie and all.

"Are all the dead end kids deceased?"

Yes.

The second-to-youngest died first. The actual youngest died last.

"Bowery Boys dvd box set"

Whether or not this product will ever be released, I have no idea, and after watching several entries in the Bowery Boys series, I can frankly, my dear, tell you: I don't care. If they do release it, I'm not gonna buy it.

But, for all the real Bowery Boy fans out there: Good luck! I do hope dvds, or box sets, are released, for your sake.

Or, for your sake, I hope you've been taping each entry off TCM. Because 48 films, squeezed into one box set, would cost an awful lot of money, not only to buy, but to make. So. Keep hoping. And there's always unofficial, bootleg copies of their films, sold online. Just be careful, and remember that the East Side Kids ARE on dvd -- almost every title in the series -- and I own several of them! Because Slip and Sach will never beat Muggs and Glimpy.

"The Last Days of Humphrey Bogart"

He was horribly sick, dying of cancer. His wife, Lauren Bacall, slept at his side. Or she tried to sleep. She instead watched him peck at his chest all night, as if something was trying to escape. His soul, most likely. He died the next morning.

That's not the last days, but the last night.

If you want more about his last days, call Lauren Bacall and ask her. Or maybe read one of the ten million books written on Humphrey Bogart. I can't stand a single word written about him...not even my own.

"Kind sleeping in New York"

Is it 'kind'?? Someone just told me it was cheap.

More to follow. Because I drank two cups of coffee before 'bedtime', and started writing a screenplay! Was confused, as to why I was writing a screenplay, when I should be writing a novel. And now, thanks to the confusion, and thanks to the coffee, and no thanks to you, or Chico Marx -- I CAN'T SLEEP.

Some good ones that found their way to my blog:

Why is George Arliss so ugly?

How did attitudes toward the parks seem to change from 1917

horse shaped cookie jars

what is significant about benchley's ability to underrate himself?

Artman: But Gene is so cold in LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN; I realize she's supposed to be cold, but it seems more accidental than anything else.

I'm glad you liked the piece. I just felt the need to write SOMETHING. And have yet to brave the bigger pieces I have in mind for this month...

Humor. Cooking. Smells good. Yes. But locked in a basement, and hates LEAVE HER TO HEAVEN.

I'm sure you feel quite torn. ;)

Matthew: Ha, about George Arliss, and Horse shaped cookie jars.

The park one is too serious.

But, "What is significant about Benchley's ability to underrate himself?" would actually make for an interesting piece! :)
