Sketching a Scene: Richard Conte as Nick Garcos; THIEVES' HIGHWAY (1949)

Ink on copy paper.

Sketched in early June, 2009; during my big Richard Conte crush, and THIEVES' HIGHWAY obsession.

I'm fairly happy with it.

I know his eyes are too big, and I messed-up his hand -- I can never do hands!

Plus, one sleeve of his jacket has a cuff, and the other one doesn't.

-- Oops. ;)

I LIKE it! And as a hopelessly inept artist, I never even noticed those "flaws" until you pointed them out! Great work!

Is his head too big??

I thought it was just his eyes...

I don't know.

It only looks good to me when it's framed and sitting on my shelf. Here, I think it looks kinda silly.

Eh c'est tres bien, ca! Les details du visage sont tres reussis - les os des joues, la ligne de la machoire, le menton... et que dire des plis aux coudes? Ca c'est tres bien, tres reussi. Formidable, Cendre! (I make a mean mac & cheese myself!)

I like it! Thanks--I forgot to mention on the other comment--even if it's a repeat, Penance Envy is just flat-out funny.

Ernie: Thank you. :)

And very clever...slipping it in French! ;)

If I weren't lactose intolerant, I'd love to taste your mean mac-n-cheese.

The elbows did come out nicely, didn't they? I tell ya...that one arm, the one with the hand shoved into his pocket, it may adorn the most perfect jacket sleeve I've ever drawn. ;)

Someone get this kid a trophy! She drew a jacket sleeve...

We'll celebrate with a bowl of your mean mac-n-cheese. Just leave mine cheeseless, and I'll drown it in ketchup.

(I'll quit rambling now.)

After a quick google search, I learned there's lots of clever people in this world...and several other posts online entitled 'Penance Envy'.

'Course I wrote that piece four years ago, so hell, maybe they stole it from me. ;)
