"Hiya, Rocky!" ;)
~ Ink on white paper.
~ Sketched January 4th, 2010.
I was gonna do the whole gang from ANGELS, but after O'Brien, I started on Huntz Hall and messed up his chin! -- You can still see a few lines of it, hovering above O'Brien's head. -- Thought I better salvage what I had.
The best and hardest part about drawing O'Brien? The eyes!
You gotta make 'em look joyful, and sorrowful, and kinda Holy.
"Right, Fadda?"
"Right!"
My hand got tired, so I quit coloring-in his shirt, or is it a robe(?).
'Course I'd been leaving it open for Cagney's hands and gun, anyway.
Obsoive:
Here it is with the source I used -- the dvd cover from ANGELS WITH DIRTY FACES.
See? It's my own fault; I should have finished drawing the men, first -- O'Brien, Cagney, and Bogart -- before ever starting on those pesky Kids.

believe me, pretty lady of french decent, the eyes are the hardest part about drawing anyone! if you dont nail the eyes, the rest wont matter, that's sorta my woikin' mantra :)
i like this piece, and you're hella-brave for working in ink!!
He does look joyful, sad & holy! I love how he stands in the light at the end of the film (at least that's how I remember it!)
Nice work, Ginger!!!
Glad to see yet ANOTHER artist in the blogosphere... I have 'tinkered' with sketches in the past, but it's been awhile...maybe one day I will break out the pencils and see what I can muster...
Keep up the good work - and hope all is well for you!!!
Sincerely,
VKMfan

Artman: "What do YOU say?" ;)
I agree about the eyes.
Not brave. Just lazy. I always have a pen with me, and pens don't need sharpening. ;)
Glad you like this piece. :)

John: Thank you. :)
And yep, he's in the light, and the kids are in the dark, and they rise up through the shadows...
All those religious visual metaphors.

VKM fan: Thank you. :)
And you should definitely try sketching again; as much as you love Ginger Rogers, she could probably inspire you to create something great!
-- I usually do better when I love the subject.
I hope all is well for you, too. :)
