People's Sexiest Man Alive, 1950?

Yesterday, while cleaning-out and decorating my office, I came across an old issue of People magazine: the Sexiest Man Alive, from 2006, with George Clooney on the cover. I stood there for a moment (drooling, most likely) and then thought, "Gee, this looks awful familiar..." and for more than the simple fact that I've seen the magazine before (it's been over two years), but something more recent, as in the past twenty minutes!

I had just hung up some new mini-posters, including a WHERE THE SIDEWALK ENDS (1950) print. Lights went off in my head! I ran to the poster with the magazine in hand, and voila! I'll be damned if my beloved Dana Andrews doesn't look like George freakin' Clooney. How wonderful! Dana's such a neglected slice of beefcake -- even I failed to mention him in my now deleted piece 'My Sexy Six' (I was silly to think I could leave it at six men. I'll most likely return to that idea with 'My Sexy Six Hundred'!), and George Clooney, of course, is practically worshiped by women everywhere! So the fact that they resemble each other really made me smile.

People Magazine itself debuted in 1974.

If People had been around in the classic film era, I imagine Cary Grant (Good Lord, how most women love Cary Grant...) would have been a reoccurring winner -- Clooney won it twice, so did Brad Pitt, and Richard Gere.

Who do you think would have been in the running for 1950? :)
